Some Politicians Spend So Much To Win Positions w/ Huge Responsibilities, Small Salaries — the Irony in PH

Some Politicians’ Huge Money Go Out During Election Campaign Period in PH

Aren’t you wondering why some, not all, politicians in the Philippines are seemingly ready to sell their gold for small-paying positions that requires a lot of work?

The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) Elections 2023 are set on Monday, October 30, 2023. Millions of Filipinos are also set to once again exercise their right to vote. In the recent days, the campaign period was held.

Streets filled with tarpaulins, posters, and other election campaign materials are usual sights during election period in the Philippines. Truth be told there are political candidates who visibly spend a lot for their campaign.

However, what is quite an irony is that the monetary salary of the positions they are running for seemingly cannot fathom their expenses during the campaign. This is aside from the fact that loads and loads of work awaits them.

I believe there are politicians whose heart are really set for public service. However, I also honestly believe that the rules with regards to the election campaign spendings must be reviewed and strengthened. It leaves a huge doubt to voters to see election candidates who are seemingly ready to spend a lot of their savings for government positions.

While there are politicians who are already wealthy by nature, strengthening the limitations for election spendings also creates an equal ground between rich, middle-class, and poor candidates for the upcoming poll. It can greatly help the Philippines if the voters use track records and the genuine intentions of election candidates as basis in choosing who to vote.
