After Nine Years of Waiting, Lotto Winner with a Damaged Ticket to Receive P12 Million Prize
A lotto winner, who had a damaged ticket, is set to finally claim his long-awaited P12 million jackpot prize from the Lotto 6/42 of PCSO.
Lotto tickets are often the gateways to dreams of riches and prosperity, and it’s not uncommon for people to go to great lengths to preserve them. However, life sometimes throws unexpected wrinkles into the mix – quite literally.
Lotto players have various ways of handling their tickets. Some carefully store their tickets in wallets or frames, while others may not be as cautious, leading to the occasional wrinkled or damaged ticket. Ironing lotto tickets is a practice born out of desperation or hope.
In 2014, a Lotto winner placed three lucky picks at a Batangas outlet for the Lotto 6/42 game. It was an ordinary act of betting that led to an extraordinary event.
The winner faced a devastating setback upon discovering that their numbers had hit the jackpot. Their winning ticket was damaged when it was folded by their grandchild, causing some of the important details to be smudged and illegible.
Determined to claim their rightful prize, the winner approached the PCSO with a handwritten account of the unfortunate incident. However, the PCSO informed them that they could not issue the prize due to the damaged ticket.
The winner decided to take their case to the Supreme Court. SC issued a 17-page decision that ordered the PCSO to release the prize of P12,391,600 to the deserving bettor.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles confirmed that the agency will comply with the Supreme Court’s directive.
PCSO warmly received the lotto winner, who visited their office, and assured them that the prize would be handed over as soon as the necessary documentary and administrative processes were completed.
