MMFF 2023 Movies – List Of Official Entries

MMFF 2023 MOVIES – This year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is going to have 10 movies as official entries.

The MMFF used to showcase eight film entries but just recently, they announced that the list has expanded to 10. It said the selection committee has screened 30 film submissions and the movies that ranked 4, 5, and 6, which are unnamed, came into a three-way tie.

There will be 10 MMFF 2023 movies as official entries and here’s a list.

MMFF 2023 – This year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) announced that there will be 10 entries to be offered to the moviegoers.

This year’s much-anticipated Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is on its 49th edition. Recently, the full lineup of entries for 2023 has been announced and this year, the films will be available to watch from December. 25, 2023, Christmas Day, to January 7, 2024.

To recall, this year, a Summer MMFF has been held.

Last July, the first four official entries were already announced and they were chosen based on these criteria: Artistic Excellence – 40 percent; Commercial Appeal – 40 percent; Filipino Cultural Sensibility – 10 percent; and Global Appeal – 10 percent.

The 10 official movie entries are:

  1. “A Mother and Son’s Story” (Cineko Productions)
    starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards and directed by Nuel Naval
  2. “(K)Ampon” (Quantum Films)
    starring Derek Ramsay and Beauty Gonzales and directed by King Palisoc
  3. “Penduko” (Sari Sari Network)
    starring Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes and written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana
  4. “Rewind” (Star Cinema, APT Ent., Agosto Dos Media)
    starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera and directed by Mae Cruz Alviar
  5. “When I Met You in Tokyo” (JG Productions)
    starring Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon, Tirso Cruz 3rd, Darren Espanto and Cassy Legaspi and directed by Rado Peru and Rommel Penza
  6. “Becky and Badette” (The IdeaFirst Company)
    starring Eugene Domingo and Pokwang and written and directed by Jun Robles Lana
  7. “Mallari” (Mentorque and Clever Minds Inc.)
    starring Piolo Pascual, JC Santos, Elisse Joson, Janella Salvador and Gloria Diaz and directed by Derick Cabrido
  8. “Firefly” (GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs)
    starring Alessandra de Rossi, Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Epi Quizon, Max Collins and Dingdong Dantes and directed by Zig Dulay
  9. “Broken Hearts Trip” (BMC Films in partnership with Smart Films)
    starring Christian Bables, Andoy Ranay, Teejay Marquez, and Iyah Mina and directed by Lem Lorca
  10. “GomBurZa” (JESCOM Films and MQuest Ventures)
    starring Piolo Pascual, Khalil Ramos, Elijah Canlas, and Jaime Fabregas and directed by Pepe Diokno

The list that used to be eight has been expanded to 10 and this is because during the review of the 30 films submitted which are supposed to complete the Magic 8, three of them gained the same scores.

MMFF chairman Jesse Ejercito revealed that these three films got a 93.3% rating from the committee based on a report from ABS-CBN.
