BALER AURORA – Surfing began in Baler and apart from surfing, here are some of the other things to love about this place.

This small surfing town called Baler is in the central part of the Aurora province – the capital and oldest municipality of the province. This is a popular destination for those who are searching for sensational waves. This place is 6 to 8 hours from Manila.

So, if you are looking for some beaches that are near Manila, you must not forget to put Baler on your bucket list!

This town was founded in 1609. Originally, it was called Kinagunasan and the first inhabitants were the Angara, Bitong, Carrasco, and Lumasac families.

In 1737, Franciscan priests established a barangay form of government in this area, and from 1898 to 1901, Baler was under a revolutionary government. In 1901, Americans established the municipal government.

Among the famous historical sites is the Baler Catholic Church. Resorts like Sabang Beach and Cemento Beach are spots famous for the annual International Aurora Surfing Cup.

Getting to Aurora

From Manila, there are two roads people usually take –  the Canili-Pantabangan Road and the Baler-Bongabon Road. The Canili-Pantabangan road leads to Maria Aurora and some portions are steep.

The Baler-Bongabon Road, on the other hand, leads to San Luis and ends in Baler and this is the most commonly used road.

Getting to Baler from Manila

Genesis Transport, Inc. has the only direct route to Baler.

You may also ride the Baliwag Transit bus from the terminal at Cubao with the route to Cabanatuan. From there, take another ride to a bus terminal and ride the vehicle going to Baler.

There are also flights from Manila to Baler in San Luis and it will only take 45 minutes to reach the area.
