Regine Velasquez received this recent recognition

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez was emotional during a tribute to her during the finale night of Pinoy Playlist 2023: Gunita at Mga Bukas as she received the Ryan Cayabyab Award.

Regine received this award because of her contribution to the Philippine music industry and for being an inspiration to the younger generation of artists. Previously, based on the article in PEP, Basil Valdez and Pilita Corrales received this kind of recognition as well.

Before the giving of the award, a tribute was prepared for the seasoned singer. First, Katrina Velarde performed and the Songbird was smiling and flashing happiness on her face.

She started becoming emotional when Phi Palmos sang. It was followed by Jona whose voice was already cracking and this made Regine Velasquez emotional. Then, Trina Belamide, Ima Castro, and Sweet Plantado-Tiongson performed, and the people from the audience turned out their phones’ lights. The final performer for the tribute to Regine was Jed Madela.

When the Songbird accepted her award, Ryan Cayabyab asked her to give a message. Regine Velasquez has a funny initial statement.

This is such an honor. I didn’t even know. Ha! Ha! Ha! I’m actually gonna be awarded tonight? Akala ko, mag-a-attend lang ako ng awarding. Hindi ako sure kung ano yung ia-award. Ia-award ba ako? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!” she said.

The singer said that she is thankful for this recognition and it she is overwhelmed by this. However, her next statement was funny again. “And ahhh… medyo weird sa akin. Kasi parang… I’m being given this honor… with what I do, na pinagkakakitaan ko! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Na pinagkakakitaan ko, and that I enjoy doing,” she said.

On the other hand, she stressed that now that she is older, this has become her passion. Regine also said that music has become her life already and she has become more passionate about it.

And I’m happy that I get to inspire people. Kasi bilang kontesera ako, I have this thing that everytime I sing, sinusukat ko yung sarili ko lagi,” she added.

Regine Velasquez also said that more than the fame and money that she gets from this profession, she is happy to be an inspiration to other artists.

Despite her success, Regine remained humble. In a previous interview, she said, “hindi lalaki ang ulo ko.”
