One of the most popular tales in Greek Mythology is the Daedalus and Icarus summary — a tale about an imprisoned father and son who managed to escape but, shortly, his son fell to death because of his disobedience.
King Mino hired Daedalus, a famous inventor and engineer, to design and build a labrynth where the monster Minotaur will be kept. It is believed that Athena, the goddess of wisdom, was the one who taught Daedalus.
However, after Daedalus and Icarus, his son, finished the construction of the labrynth, both of them were imprisoned by King Minos inside it. The King does not want the public to know about the labrynth so he decided to keep the father and son.
Daedalus and Icarius thought for ways on how to escape from the labrynth. The inventor came up with an idea to gather a lot of feathers from birds, glue them together to make wings. He used wax to attach the feathers together. They made four (4) large wings which they tied to each other.
The father and son managed to flee from Crete using the wings they made out of birds’ feathers. The inventor warned his son not to get too close to the sun as the wax that held the feathers together may melt.
One of the highlights of the Daedalus and Icarus summary is when the father and son passed the island of Delos. Icarus forgot about the warning of his father and went close towards the son. The heat of the sun melted the wax that held the feathers of his wings together causing him to fall to the sea and drown.
In the memory of his beloved son, Daedalus named the place where Icarus fell “Icaria”.
