Netizens were both broken and impressed as to how Vicky Morales and other GMA reporters professionally handled the pain of Mike Enriquez death announcement.
At 71 years old and after a career in broadcasting that spanned 50 years, veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez bids goodbye.
In a previous article, Enriquez’s death was confirmed by the GMA network whose statement said:
It is with profound sadness that GMA network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel “Mike” C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.
It is no secret that in the past years, the broadcaster has suffered from major health problems like diabetes and kidney disease. He also underwent a heart bypass.
This year, he was able to return to reporting but three months later, he went off air again and his absence was greatly noticed by the viewers of the GMA flagship newscast.
Upon the announcement, some of his colleagues were not able to control their emotions as they reported his death in 24 Oras. Mel Tiangco, a personality close to him, reported the news and the statement of their network.
She broke her voice upon making the report and even paused for a moment to get herself together to finish the report.
It broke the hearts of the people watching them. Vicky Morales, among the people the late broadcaster has closely worked with in his career, wasn’t also able to finish her closing spiel in a straight voice as she immediately tore up upon remembering Enriquez.
She broke down when she was about to say, “Para sa mas malaking misyon…”
And to some, Morales’ grief was profound.

Many people online commended the broadcasters of 24 Oras for maintaining a professional face and atmosphere with the knowledge of their colleague’s death all throughout. Netizens expressed that it was hard but they were all able to make it through it.
It was heartbreaking for a lot of people to imagine what they did and to see them breaking down as they lost not only a legend in broadcasting but also a family.
Noli De Castro also recalled his friendship with Enriquez and the moments he was able to share with the late broadcaster when he was still alive.
