There are several holidays in a year in the Philippines. These days are mostly for a commemoration of an event or a person who is a significant part of the history of the country. Some holidays are in observance of certain beliefs or religious events.

When it comes to holidays, two (2) of its types are the “Regular Holiday” and the “Special Non-Working Holiday“. The former refers to national holiday events wherein all classes in schools are suspended. Private and public work are also suspended on the said day.

Usually, the regular holidays are marked red in the Philippine calendar. During these days, when an employee reports to work, he/she is entitled to an additional of 100% basic daily pay aside from his/her salary on the said day.

If you are curious if there is a regular holiday this September 2023, next month is one of the few months in a year wherein there are no regular holidays as well as special non-working days unless there will be a presidential declaration.

Here are the regular holidays this year:

  • New Year’s Day – January 1 (Saturday)
  • Araw ng Kagitingan – April 10 (Monday nearest April 9)
  • Maundy Thursday – April 6
  • Good Friday – April 7
  • Labor Day – May 1 (Monday)
  • Independence Day – June 12 (Monday)
  • National Heroes Day – August 28 (last Monday of August)
  • Bonifacio Day – November 27 (Monday nearest November 30)
  • Christmas Day – December 25 (Monday)
  • Rizal Day – December 30 (Saturday)

Several holidays this year fall on a Monday. They pave the way for long weekends 2023 to be quite long.

As mentioned earlier, there are also special non-working days in a year. Here is a list of the days when workers who report to work gets an additional pay of equivalent to 30% of their basic daily salary:

  • EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary – February 25 (Saturday)
  • Black Saturday – April 8
  • Ninoy Aquino Day – August 21 (Monday)
  • All Saints’ Day – November 1 (Wednesday)
  • Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary – December 8 (Friday)
  • Last Day of the Year – December 31 (Sunday)
  • Addition special non-working days:
    • January 2 (Monday)
    • November 2 (Thursday)
