September 11, 2023 Declared by President Marcos a Special Non-Working Day in Ilocos Norte in Commemoration of His Late Dad’s 106th Birth Anniversary
In an official proclamation, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has designated September 11, 2023, as a special non-working day in Ilocos Norte, marking the 106th birth anniversary of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the proclamation on behalf of President Marcos last August 23, 2023. It points out the importance of this occasion and the people’s right to fully partake in its celebration.
The declaration of September 11 as a special holiday in Ilocos Norte points out the complex nature of historical memory and the dynamic role that previous leaders have had in constructing modern narratives.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. revived some of his father’s projects during his first year in office. Some of the projects include Kadiwa store system and Masagana rice production program.
Marcos, Sr., held the presidential office from 1965 until 1986. However, his regime is also remembered for the imposition of martial law from 1972 to 1981, a period marred by accusations of corruption and severe human rights abuses.
It also emphasizes the ongoing discussion over the Marcos family’s legacy, as well as the various points of view that continue to affect our knowledge of Philippine history and politics.
The Marcos family has often been a controversial subject in Philippine politics and society, with different perspectives on its historical impact and legacy. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., has claimed that his family’s position as antagonists in Philippine history comes from the idea that “victors write history.”
This argument suggests that the most common stories in history are frequently shaped by those who win political conflicts.
