The Quezon City Regional Trial Court has dismissed the estafa and illegal recruitment cases against Jay Sonza.

On Tuesday (August 15, 2023), Jay Sonza was arrested for an alleged illegal recruitment case. His mugshot quickly spread online, eliciting reactions from netizens.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported that Sonza was apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) just before boarding a flight to Hong Kong. Immigration officials also discovered that he has a pending estafa case.

Many internet users exclaimed that the broadcaster deserved to be jailed, viewing it as karma for his actions.

Then, On Thursday (August 17, 2023), QC RTC Branch 100 reportedly dismissed the syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment case filed against the veteran broadcaster Jay Sonza.

Spokesperson Jail Chief Inspector Jayrex Joseph Bustinera of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology stated that the cases were dismissed due to the complainants’ failure to attend the hearings.

Additionally, QC RTC Branch 215 also dismissed the estafa case against Sonza. Currently, Sonza is detained at the Quezon City Jail – Ligtas Covid Center Quarantine Facility in Payatas, Quezon City.

However, QC RTC Branch 77 issued a new commitment order, stating that Sonza will remain in detention due to a libel case filed against him.

To secure his release, Sonza needs to pay a bail of P10,000 for the libel case. BJMP emphasized that Sonza is required to attend his arraignment for the libel case on Friday (August 18, 2023).
