Instead of Paying, Elderly Jeepney Driver Receives Help from Owner of Vehicle He Damaged
An elderly jeepney driver received help from a kind owner of the vehicle he allegedly damaged during a traffic mishap.
A story about an old jeepney driver’s traffic conflict with a private vehicle owner who moved and impressed the Facebook community. A 74-year-old jeepney driver who, rather than being required to pay for the van’s damages, obtained assistance from the van’s owner.
Kamz Alvarez commented on Facebook how moved she was by the story of the elderly jeepney driver who is still working. According to Alvarez, her family demanded that the driver cover the damages. Even yet, after she learned that the old man’s income would be withheld by his operator, they ceased demanding money from him.
“So dahil tulog na ko, they asked for his id and yung operator ang nagbayad sana sa “damage” na kakaltasin sa sahod ni tatay.” Alvarez narrated.
“Imagine sguro kung may means lang sya d na sya papasada ng jeep. Sabi ko ibalik na lang yung money skanya at isuprise sya with bigas and groceries,” she also said.
Instead, they decided to assist the driver, who was clearly unable to work, by giving him groceries. She explained that his father was a tricycle driver, and she recalls begging a Land Transportation Office (LTO) officer when he was in primary school to acquire his license since she didn’t have enough money to pay for the violation.
“My dad was before a tricycle driver, and I can vividly remember when I was in grade school he was begging the LTO officer not to get his license dahil wala syang pantubos,” she said.
“When I talked to Tatay he was so relieved and thankful, kasi nagmamaintenance pa pala sya. Di daw sya nakatulog kagabi kasi d nya alam paano nya babayaran yun,” she added in her post.
His motivational Facebook message has gone viral, eliciting various comments from the online community. The snapshot was shared thousands of times and received great feedback from netizens.
