Police authorities arrested two (2) fishermen after they allegedly butchered the missing dog of a tourist in Saraiya, Quezon.

According to the report of GMA News, Sariaya police chief Maj Romar Pacis stated that Alicia Peduche, a resident of Barangay Calios in Sta Cruz, Laguna, was checking in at the resort with her two dogs for a family outing. However, on July 18, one of her pets went missing.

Peduce shared a photo of the dog on social media and offered a P5,000 prize for its return. Meanwhile, a concerned resident alerted the woman’s relative that two fishermen in the neighborhood had slain her pet.

Peduce then sought the intervention of the police. According to the police complaint, the victim even caught her pet being butchered on the table by the defendants, Renato Castillo, 51, and an alias “Bunso.”

Based on the report, the fisherman is now imprisoned, and the hunt for alias Bunso continues. The accused are facing charges of violating the Animal Welfare Act, which carries a two-year prison sentence and a fine of up to P100,000.

The Animal Kingdom Foundation strongly opposes dog slaughter. The non-profit organization is prepared to provide legal support to the fur parent, and they have urged barangay officials to increase vigilance and warn citizens that killing and eating dogs is against the law.

  1. While it is true that killing and/or eating dogs (man’s best friend as they call them) is not acceptable, I believe the government and other concerned entities should continue to educate Filipinos to put a stop the old practice of eating dogs, just like in other modern and progressive countries. As far as I know, there are still places in the Philippines where dog meat is a delicacy… I know it is a practice that we can not stop overnight, but we have to start somewhere, sometime. Just like in other places where prostitution is an accepted practice, we can just stop it because it’s bad.. we have to explain why it’s bad and at the same time give those involved in prostitution an alternative and teach them how to go about these alternatives.. Man/woman has to eat to survive do not forget that, having said that, our survival instinct will always kick in at every given situation.
