President Marcos on Barbie Movie Issue: “It’s a work of fiction”

President Marcos Reacts to the Banning Issue of International Movie Barbie

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr expresses reactions to the banning issue of the international movie “Barbie”.

Several Senators have previously petitioned the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to prohibit Barbie due to the “boundary line” depicted in the film. Meanwhile, Marcos Jr. assuaged public concerns over the contentious foreign film “Barbie,” claiming that it is a “work of fiction.”

“‘Yung sinasabi nila, ‘yung kasama doon sa ‘yung boundary line na ginawa. Ang sagot ko doon: What do you expect? It’s a work of fiction,” said Marcos during his official engagements in Northern Samar this Friday, July 14.

The President said this after a controversy erupted over a map depicting China’s alleged territorial claims in the South China Sea via the so-called “nine-dash line.” Marcos echoed the earlier expert opinion of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), based on the article of PNA.

According to the DFA, the scene in the film has nothing to do with China’s nine-dash line claim in the disputed South China Sea. Because of such a passage in Barbie, the government of Vietnam has declared a ban on the film.

As a result, on July 4, the MTRBC said that it will review the film. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 11, a letter was published announcing that the MTRCB had approved Barbie’s release in the Philippines.
