Maynilad Announces Affected Areas of Daily Water Interruption Starting July 12
MAYNILAD – The largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines Maynilad announced the affected areas of daily water interruption starting July 12.
Due to Angat Dam dropping below its minimum operational level, Maynilad Water Services on Monday announced daily water service interruption in numerous regions of Metro Manila starting on Wednesday.
The water outage will start at 7 p.m. and affect a number of locations in Caloocan City, Malabon City, Manila, Valenzuela City, Navotas City, and Quezon City. up until 4 a.m., with some areas perhaps being impacted until 6 a.m.
The time frame of the water service outage period was not specified in the statement, which was posted on their Facebook page.
The water and wastewater services provider said this comes “as the raw water allocation for [Metropolitan Water and Sewerage System] has been brought down to 48 cubic meters per second due to the elevation of Angat Dam falling below its minimum operating level of 180 meters.”
NCR and the surrounding provinces receive drinkable water from Angat Dam.
“The allocation was lowered in an effort to preserve water in Angat Dam, given the possible worsening effects of El Niño in the coming months. However, this also means that Maynilad will get less supply than it needs to sustain normal service levels,” it added.
However, it was noted that the daily water service outages might not be felt by July 12 because the Ipo watershed still receives some rainfall.
This can potentially happen sooner than expected because Maynilad produces more water as a result of several supply augmentation initiatives.
“At any rate, affected customers are advised to prepare for this scenario. Keep enough water stored for your needs during the hours when supply will not be available. Please store water in clean, covered containers,” Maynilad continued.
