In each field, there are individuals who made names for their excellent works and impressive pursuits. In the field of art, here are some of the famous artists in the Philippines and their excellent work of art.
1. Fernando Amorsolo
One of the most popular artists in the country is Fernando Amorsolo, the Philippine’s first National Artist who is also dubbed as the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art”. He loved to depict the local people in his works of art like in this “The Fruit Gatherer” painting.
Fernando has dedicated a huge part of himself in art – coming up to at least 10 painting each month until his death. He also loves painting the sun.
2. Pacita Abad
The Filipina painter is popular for her eccentric use of color in her artworks. She loves painting underwater scenes, tropical flowers, and wild animals. She also loves to paint about her travels in different countries.
Pacita Abad has visited over 80 countries. Some of her works also drew inspiration from other big artists like Ben Shahn. She is a multi-awarded painter. She was the first woman to receive the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award.
3. Hernando Ocampo
Known for his unique and striking color palletes, Hernando Ocampo is one of the famous artists who are self-taught. Science fiction and the Filipino landscape have greatly influenced his work.
Genesis is one of the masterpieces of Hernando Ocampo. In 1991, he was awared as a National Artist of the Philippines. Other popular artworks of Ocampo includes the “Man and Carabao” in 1950 and the “Calvary” in 1948.
4. Napoleon Abueva
The most popular sculpture in the Philippines is Napoleon Abueva. He is one of the youngest recipients of the Philippine National Artist for Scuplture award which was given to him in 1976.
Kaganapan is one of the masterpieces of Napoleon Abueva. He is known as the Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture. He used different materials in his works such as cement, adobe, wood, alabaster, coral, bronze, stainless steel, and marble.
5. Vicente Manansala
Popular for his Cubist paintings, illustrations, and prints, Vicente Manansala is a neo-realist artist. He was a part of the group of artists, Thirteen Moderns, which was spearheaded by Victorio Edades.
Manansala is a significant figure in the push for modernist movement in the country. He focused on national problems and issues.
