President Marcos Urged to Create Commission for LGBTQIA+
LGBT group urges President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr to create a commission in the government for LGBTQIA+.
LGBT Pilipinas want them to be represented in government and to be a part of and serve the government. This is what the group proposed after meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. this Thursday at Malacaang.
The organization requested that the Palace establish an advisory board or commission on LGBTQIA+ issues within the President’s Office. The group also asked First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos to support their proposition to the President.
The First Lady’s response was positive because she stated that they assisted much during the President’s campaign and that she is merely returning the favor to people who assisted her during the election. Based on the report, the First Lady praised the group for their assistance during the election, which paid off when President Marcos was elected.
“Knowing my husband, I’m sure he will grant the wish because he knows that you all campaigned for him and he wouldn’t be there without you guys… So, thank you very much. I think it’s our way of giving back to those who helped him in the election,” said the First Lady.
The First Lady observed the inauguration of the new LGBT Pilipinas officials, led by Director Dindi Tan as national president. Marcos, Jr. has told members of the LGBTQIA+ community that the government will protect them from prejudice, stating that all Filipinos “should be treated the same.”
“We in the Philippines, ang habol lang naman talaga natin is that everybody is treated [equally], not for any other thing— not for race, not for creed, not for orientation— but just as Filipinos. This government, that’s what it’s trying to do,” Marcos said.
