“Nagmakaawa ako sa kanila. Sabi ko wala ako gaano pera, galing ako sa sakit… Sabi sa ‘kin, ‘Wala kami paki sa ‘yo, sabi namin pera pera lang, Binigay ko lahat. Pagbaba ko, sabay takbo. Kinuha sa ‘kin manibela,” the taxi driver said.

Fortunately, the victim came across patrolling police officers who immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation. Along NS Amoranto, the police intercepted the suspects inside the stolen taxi, resulting in a chase.

CCTV footage shows the taxi colliding with a motorcycle ridden by a police officer. It is reported that one of the suspects even fired shots at the authorities, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

“Doon na nakipagbarilan sa tropa. May tama siya (isang suspek) sa kaliwang braso. Tumagos sa leeg,” said PLt Col Romil Avenido, Station 1 Chief.

Despite the commotion, the suspects managed to escape while driving away. During their escape, they also collided with another motorcycle ridden by a delivery rider.

However, it didn’t take long for the authorities to locate one of the suspects. La Loma Police Station received information from Galas Police Station (PS11) about a gunshot victim brought to a hospital on E Rodriguez Avenue.

The taxi driver positively identified the injured man as one of the perpetrators who had held him up. The stolen taxi was also recovered at the emergency lobby of the hospital. As of now, the police are actively pursuing the remaining suspect.

According to PLt Col Avenido, this incident marks the fourth robbery and holdup case in the area.
