Police Arrests 15-Year-Old Boy for Stealing Funds from Church’s Donation Box
A 15-year-old boy was caught red-handed stealing money from the candle stand donation box at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral in Barangay Santo Niño, Cebu City. The incident occurred at around 10 am on Thursday, (June 15, 2023), leaving the community shocked.
The young suspect, whose real identity is concealed owing to his minor status, is a high school student from Barangay Guadalupe. The arrest of the kid was made possible by the fast efforts of a watchful barangay tanod.
The perpetrator was afterward handed over to local police authorities. However, an unexpected twist occurred when the youngster was released as a result of Msgr’s intervention. Camilo Alia, who provided mercy and pardon.
Moved by regret, the 15-year-old, who claims to be gay and of Filipino-Iranian race, sobbed as he sought forgiveness for his sins.
Felipe Moncada, the on-duty security guard, observed the small youngster while patrolling the candle-lighting area. During this time, Moncada noticed the teenager praying and smiled in his direction.
“I was surprised because he was wearing very bright clothes and wearing lipstick! I watched from behind and he stole money from the donation box,” shared Moncada.
Moncada, seeing an opportunity to prevent more misconduct, apprehended the small youngster, who was still clutching a P50 cash in his clenching palm.
The incident has sparked conversations within the community, with concerns raised about the underlying reasons behind the minor’s actions. It serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing the social and psychological factors that may drive individuals, especially minors, to engage in criminal behavior.
