BIR Fired 26 Employees, 2 Suspended After Involved in Corruptions
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sacked 26 employees and 2 others are suspended after being involved in corruptions.
Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) stated that 26 office personnel were fired, while two others were suspended. This came after the authorities learned that they were implicated in a number of corruptions.
According to Lumagui, the measure is to reprimand erring employees in order to ensure the agency’s personnel’s integrity and professionalism. He stated that if you do not fulfill our criteria for Integrity and Professionalism, you have no business working for the BIR.
“As we transform the BIR into an institution of integrity and excellence, we have removed 26 and suspended 2 erring employees. Keep in mind that you have no business working for the BIR if you fail to meet our standards for Integrity and Professionalism,” said Commissioner Lumagui.
Based on the report, the sacked BIR officers are accused of major misconduct, serious dishonesty, illegal absences, falsification of official records, excessive negligence of duty, insubordination, and absence without official leave. Commissioner Lumagui stated that he will investigate BIR officials on a regular basis.
If it is proven that they have reasons for dismissal, he will immediately remove them from their position, and if they have grounds for suspension, they will be suspended immediately. They are committed to presenting the people with a new BIR. Lumagui described a person with integrity and professionalism.

This is just tip of the iceberg! BIR needs structural, logistical and personal renewal. Without a strong and determined political will like that of clearing the Manila Bay. No amount of firing of employees will see underneath the iceberg. Your requirements to legal tax payers are a burden than a help while those tax evaders enjoyed lots of shortcuts. This in itself breeds more tax evaders than tax payers. Lifestyle check if done without bias can be your best tool for internal cleansing. Their wealth are profortionately inappropriate to their salaries. May the Lord bring more truthful God fearing officials in the Bureau.
They should also look into BIR employees in other offices.
