John Estrada and McCoy de Leon are enjoying their kontrabida roles
Kapamilya actors John Estrada and McCoy de Leon shared their thoughts on being “hated” because of their “kontrabida” roles in the primetime series Batang Quiapo.
This is not John’s first project with actor-director Coco Martin who is the lead actor in the said series. They also worked together in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. For Coco’s current series, John once again is playing the villain role. He is joined by McCoy on the bad side.
In a recent interview, based on the article in The Philippine Star, as an actor and getting that kind of “hate” from the audience because of their characters, is something that makes John happy.
“It means that you are effective as an actor,” John Estrada said. However, he stressed that Coco, as the director of the series, said that every character has a heart despite being bad or good.
“I’m not gonna be plastic in saying that I will do this para sa lahat ng bida ko (co-actors). Of course, because we are actors and I’ve been in the industry for quite a while, I have the right also to choose kung sino yung pagka-kontrabidahan ko. And I believe in Coco’s vision,” the seasoned actor said.
McCoy de Leon said that he also enjoys being the “bad guy” in the series. He said that this is a different flavor which is also different from the previous roles that he portrayed. “Mas natutuwa ako siguro because I (am) able to do my part well…” he said.
McCoy also shared that her mother reacted to his role in Batang Quiapo because she thought that he is a good guy in the series. The actor revealed that he still continues to learn acting and Coco is helping him.
Mccoy mentioned that he was happy to do a scene with Coco which went viral. “I like what I’m doing (acting). I think that’s the key. Nasa puso mo yung ginagawa mo and you enjoy it,” he said.
