Elderly Woman Caught Pickpocketing a Woman in Cubao Arrested

Police authorities arrested an elderly woman after being caught pickpocketing a woman waiting for a jeepney in Cubao.

The 63-year-old elderly woman was detained after she exploited another elderly woman who was waiting for a jeep in the Quezon City neighborhood of Barangay Socorro. Nenita Garcia Maon, 63, of Barangay Calumpang, San Miguel, Bulacan, was identified as the suspect by the Quezon City Police District.

According to PLTCOL Joseph Euje Almaquer, Station Commander of Quezon City Police District’s Cubao Police Station 7, the victim, Virginia Estabillo, was waiting for a jeep in front of Philam on Aurora Blvd. While she was waiting, the elderly suspect approached her.

Based on the report, the suspect pretended to ride the jeepney with the victim and wanted to see her identification. The suspect merely took the victim’s wallet while Estabilo was seeking for an ID.

Fortunately, Auturo Oliveros spotted the old woman pickpocketing and confronted her, and the two argued. The cops were on an anti-crime patrol at the time and saw the disturbance.

The grandmother retrieved the stolen wallet containing P3,000. The arrested suspect will face theft charges at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

 “Nagpapasalamat ako sa pagmamalasakit na ipinakita ng QCitizen sa kanyang kapwa na nagresulta sa agarang pagresponde ng ating kapulisan sa insidente. Ito ay nagpapakita lamang na maganda ang ugnayan ng ating mga mamamayan at kapulisan. Bukod pa rito, ang police visibility ay napakahalaga sapagkat isang tawag ninyo lamang, makakapagresponde kaagad ang ating mga kapulisan,” said NCRPO Director, PMGEN Edgar Alan Okubo.
