SGV broke its silence on Miss Universe Philippines 2023 issue
Miss Universe Philippines 2023’s official auditing partner, SGV (SyCip, Gorres Velayo & Company), finally spoke about the issue during the coronation night on May 13.
To recall, the Top 10 was already announced but the Top 18 contestants went back to walk in their evening gowns. During the coronation night, it was mentioned as a “technical error.”
More than a week after the coronation night, SGV released an official statement, based on the article in Inquirer.
The company said that upon detecting the error, they immediately responded and they did a manual validation of the results.
“A technical issue occurred that affected the tabulation of the judges’ scores in the selection of the Top 10 finalists, which was immediately detected. Upon detection, MUPh and SGV immediately implemented the contingency plan to perform manual validation of the results in observance of the agreed protocols,” the auditing partner of Miss Universe Philippines stated.
SGV also said that they acknowledge the effort of the MUPH board, especially Mr. Jonas Gaffud for acting abruptly to address the issue. With this, the Top 18 candidates were allowed to compete in the evening gown portion to “resolve and uphold the fairness of the competition.”
Regarding this issue, Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup said that she carefully examined what happened. “My attention was drawn to the highly improbable numbers. This gave rise to concerns that the integrity of the results may have been compromised,” she said. This made the MUPH board bring back the Top 18 candidates.
Previously, a report surfaced that the technical error was brought about by a weak internet connection.
