Teves Debunks Fake News That He Decided to Return to the Philippines
Suspended Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr debunked the fake news claiming that he will return to the Philippines.
Teves denied that he will return from the Philippines on Wednesday, May 17, as Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated. He said that he should have been asked first before disclosing such information.
“Fake news,” Teves said in a radio interview. “Dapat tinanong muna nila ako bago sila nagsalita, di ba?”
It can be recalled that Remulla claims to have a solid source who says Teves will be back in the nation on May 17. Based on the report, Remulla claimed the information came from a reputable person who was familiar with the flight procedures.
This came after Teves was denied refuge in Timor-Leste, which granted him five days to leave. Teves is alleged to have filed an appeal. Teves, on the other hand, questioned who their dependable source is.
“You want a more reliable source? Sino bang reliable source, ‘yung source nila or ako?” said the suspended lawmaker.
Teves refused to comment on his ‘asylum’ application in Timor Leste. “Tanungin mo nalang si Boying. Alam niya siguro ‘yun. Mas marami siyang alam sa akin,” Teves added, referring to Remulla.
Teves is suspected of being involved in the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. The legislator denied it repeatedly. Remulla stated in April that they will petition to add Teves to the terrorist list as a result of information received concerning the purported amount of violence in Negros Oriental.
Despite this, the DOJ has yet to charge Teves with murder. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been notified of Teves’ potential arrival to safeguard his safety.
