The police authorities discovered P19 million worth of illegal drugs inside an abandoned bag left at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Authorities seized about 3,000 grams or 2.8 kilos of suspected methamphetamine in abandoned luggage at NAIA Terminal 1. According to a PDEA, agents from the Naia-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group discovered the bag, which contained P19,352,800 worth of illegal substances.
According to officials, the suitcase, which belonged to a Ugandan passenger, was submitted to X-ray, K9 sniffing, and physical scrutiny. The item was delivered to the country on December 26, 2022.
According to the report, the luggage originated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. It was carried onto an Ethiopian Airlines flight and belonged to a female passenger who was denied entry into the nation upon her arrival on December 24, last year.
This was two days before the bag was discovered. Evidence discovered included a box holding more than P19 million in shabu, a handbag, a beauty kit, and wrench tools. The luggage in question will be subject to seizure and forfeiture proceedings.
The illegal narcotics confiscated have been turned over to the PDEA for proper disposal. Authorities will also look into the suitcase’s owner for suspected drug charges.
