Former Pres. Gloria Arroyo from House Senior Deputy Speaker to Deputy Speaker
GLORIA ARROYO – The Former President and currently the Pampanga 2nd District Representative is replace as the House Senior Deputy Speaker.
Former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has not left the limelight of politics even after her term as the country’s Chief Executive has lapsed in 2010. She was the country’s President from 2001 to 2010.
Arroyo was the speaker of the House of Representatives in the 17th Congress from 2018 to 2019. The Lakas CMD lawmaker is currently serving the 2nd District of Pampanga as its congresswoman. She’s also the House senior deputy speaker until recently when a lawmaker moved to vote for a new person in the position.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Arroyo was replaced as the House Senior Deputy Speaker and was elected as Deputy Speaker by one of her colleagues in the House of Representatives.
According to the report, Deputy Majority Leader Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor moved to elect Pampanga 3rd District Representative Aurelio Dong Gonzales Jr. as House Senior Deputy Speaker. The body approved the motion of the Deputy Majority Leader.
After electing Gonzales as the Senior Deputy Speaker, Defensor moved to elect former President and Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Arroyo as deputy speaker, the position vacated by the new Senior Deputy Speaker. The body approved the motion and the plenary session was adjourned.
According to House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, the reason behind the switch of positions between Arroyo and Gonzales is for the latter to “unburden his cabalen… of the heavy load required from the position”.
