LTO is Set to Launch Digital Driver’s License
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to launch a digital version of the driver’s license as an alternative to the traditional physical card.
According to LTO Chief Jay Art Tugade, the digital driver’s license can be accessed through a so-called “Super App” developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
One of the advantages of the digital license is that motorists can present it to law enforcement officers during apprehension, which is equivalent to presenting the physical driver’s license.
This means that motorists no longer have to worry about forgetting or losing their driver’s license as long as they have access to the digital version.

However, it was not mentioned when the official launch of the digital driver’s license will take place. Nevertheless, this new development is expected to greatly benefit the public, especially during the ongoing pandemic where contactless transactions are encouraged.
Aside from the convenience of having a digital license, the Super App can also be used for other transactions with the LTO, such as license registration and renewal, as well as online payments. With the Super App, motorists can save time and effort in processing their license-related transactions.
The digital driver’s license is also seen as a step towards digitalizing government services, which is in line with the government’s efforts to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
