BPI Los Baños Center Distributes Fresh Veggies & Corn to Oil-Spill Affected Residents in Batangas City
BPI Los Baños Center distributes fresh vegetables and corn to oil-spill-affected residents in Batangas City.
The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) Los Baños Center recently distributed fresh vegetables and corn to the families of fishermen residing in six island barangays of the city. This initiative was launched to support the livelihood of affected fishermen from the oil spill caused by the sinking of the MT Princess Empress in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on February 28.
One of the islands affected by the oil spill was Isla Verde, which severely impacted the livelihood of the local fishermen. While the oil spill did not fully spread across the island, its effects were still felt by the fishermen living in the area.
To assist in providing a sustainable livelihood, the BPI distributed fresh vegetables and corn to the families of the fishermen. The City Agriculture Office also distributed vegetable seeds that could be planted in their backyards.
This initiative is part of the government’s effort to support the affected communities and help them recover from the effects of the oil spill.
Through these initiatives, the government aims to provide support to the families of affected fishermen by providing them with alternative sources of livelihood and ensuring that their basic needs are met.
