Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj reminded pageant fans to be kinder and avoid the bashing of candidates.
Venus is known for starting the Philippines’ winning streak in Miss Universe. After her stint in the most prestigious pageant in the world, candidates from the Philippines always reached the final rounds.
The former beauty queen has her own podcast now titled The Major Major Podcast which is from her famous Miss Universe final answer.
Venus Raj answered a question from a listener who wanted to become a beauty queen but she feels a big pressure, based on the article in Bandera.
“Sa lahat ho sa atin na mga supporters ng beauty pageants, please take it easy on the girls. Take it easy on the girls. Yes we’ve earned the sash factor, we’ve become a powerhouse so to speak, but let’s be kinder,” she said.
Venus also said that it is a tough competition and a lot of girls are vying for just one crown. She reminded fans to let the candidates celebrate their uniqueness. The former beauty queen also said that some girls don’t enjoy their pageant journey because of the pressure that they feel.
She pointed out that the bashing or the negative comments do not help the candidates. Venus said that sometimes, pageant fans forget that candidates are also human beings and that they have imperfections.
“Nakakalimutan ho natin ‘yun. And when we force fit women into a mold or a prototype, it’s not very empowering,” she stressed. Venus Raj said that this goes against the real purpose of the pageant, to be a platform to inspire and empower women. “Kaya tigil-tigilan na ho natin ang pamba-bash, okay lang ho ba?” she added.
