Guide on Holiday Pay for Workers in the Philippines
HOLIDAY PAY – Here is a guide on how much employees in the Philippines must get during holidays under the Labor Law.
In a year, there are several holidays. These are days wherein classes in schools are suspended and work is also suspended in most offices, establishments, and companies.
One of the types of holidays in the Philippines is the “Regular Holiday”. These are constant holidays in the calendar every year and they are usually in commemoration of certain historical events or the lives of individuals who are significant in the history of the country.
Every regular holiday, the holiday pay is equivalent to 100% of the basic salary of the employee regardless of the work suspension. Based on the Labor Law in the Philippines, here is a guide in case an employee reports to work or not on a holiday:
- No work on a holiday – The worker is entitled to 100% pay or an equivalent of his or her basic daily rate.
- Work on a holiday – The worker is entitled to 100% pay plus the wage of the worker on the said day.
- Work on a double holiday – The employee is entitled to a 200% holiday pay or double of his or her daily salary rate plus the actual wage of the worker on the said day.
With regards to the special non-working days, an employee is entitled to 30% of his or her basic daily salary rate plus his or her actual salary on the said day.
