Man Charging Parking Fees to Motorists in Public Place in Pangasinan Arrested
Police authorities arrested a man for allegedly charging parking fees to motorists in a public place in Pangasinan.
The arrest occurred when a motorist’s social media post went viral. Motorists complained about a man causing difficulty and reportedly demanding parking fees at the Mangaldan plaza, which was demonstrated.
Other motorists who claim to have been victimized by those who charge parking fees in public places commented on the post. When such a report reached the mayor’s office, the problem was sent to the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) and the police.
A man was caught collecting parking fines, according to POSO. He was chastised and warned that if caught again, he would face prosecution. Except for private parking lots, there is no parking fee in public parking places, according to POSO.
“When in the public [area] they don’t pay anything and they never pay or give,” said Renato Gubatan Jr., traffic supervisor, PSO-Mangaldan.
The Mangaldan, Pangasinan local government reminded motorists that they are free and do not have to pay parking fees when in public spaces such as plazas. The notice was issued in response to concerns from certain motorists about those who purportedly collect parking fees in public spaces.
