Muntinlupa LGU Partners with 4 Funeral Parlors in Preparation for ‘The Big One’

Muntinlupa LGU Enters Agreement w/ 4 Funeral Parlors Prior to ‘The Big One’

THE BIG ONE – Muntinlupa LGU has entered into agreements with four funeral parlors as a preparation for ‘The Big One’.

The local government unit (LGU) of Muntinlupa City has taken proactive measures in preparation for the potential impact of “The Big One” by entering into agreements with four funeral parlors.

The City Council has approved Resolution 217 to 220, series of 2023, allowing Mayor Ruffy Biazon to establish a memorandum of agreement with Lim De Mesa Funeral Parlor in Putatan, Lim De Mesa in Bayanan, King Harold Funeral Parlor in Bayanan, and Eastern Funeral Services in Alabang for the recovery, processing, and disposal of mass casualties in the event of a powerful earthquake or other natural calamities.

“Preparation is key when dealing with natural disasters, the immediate processing of mass casualties is essential to ensure the safety of survivors as well as to facilitate the grieving process,” Biazon said.

These funeral parlors will assist in the collection, preservation, storage, and disposal of bodies without any cost to the LGU in case of a major disaster, particularly the anticipated magnitude-8.0 earthquake that is expected to originate from the West Valley Fault system.

Muntinlupa City is surrounded by the West Valley Fault, running from north to south and passing through almost all of its nine barangays.

Experts have identified that the West Valley Fault is overdue for movement, raising concerns of a potential stronger earthquake.

To reduce possible loss of life, Muntinlupa City actively participates in regular drills in coordination with other local government units and national agencies to enhance their preparedness for “The Big One”.
