LTO Chief Warns Public “Wag makipagtransaksyon sa mga fixers”

LTO Chief Appeals to Public Not to Make Transaction with Fixers

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Jay ArT Tugade warned the public not to make transactions with alleged fixers.

Tugade warned the public once more not to deal with fixers who offer fraudulent driver’s licenses. This is the LTO chief’s reaction to the recent arrest of fixers in separate operations in Iloilo City and Oas, Albay.

Among those detained, he said, was a barangay official from Ilongbukid in San Rafael, Iloilo. According to the report, the suspect was determined to be a barangay treasurer and to be selling fraudulent licenses worth P5,650.

Another volunteer traffic enforcer was nabbed by police in Oas, Albay, after attempting to ask a complainant for P7,500 in exchange for the rapid processing of the victim’s driver’s license application. Tugade emphasized that these fixers are in desperate need of money.

“It seems these fixers are really desperate for money. Admittedly, life is still hard, especially that many are still recovering from the economic effects of the pandemic, but it is never, and will never be, enough reason to engage in criminal acts such as fixing,” he said.

“There will be consequences, and at the LTO, we will make sure that illegal activities such as fixing will be dealt with severely according to our laws,” Tugade emphasized,” he added.

According to the source, charges have been filed against the suspects. The individuals were arrested at the San Rafael police station and charged with violating Republic Act 9485, also known as the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007.
