John Matthew Salilig’s Brother on Suspects Not Guilty Plea: “Lalaban sila…”

John Matthew Salilig’s Brother Speaks on “Not Guilty” Plea of 7 Suspects

John Matthew Salilig’s brother reacted to the “not guilty” plea of the seven (7) suspects on the charges filed against them.

In February, countless hearts were left shocked and saddened by another case of hazing that was followed by the death of one of the frat members, John Matthew Salilig. He was a third year chemical engineering student of Adamson University.

John Matthew was a member of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity in Zamboanga. He informed his older brother that he will be attending the welcoming rites of the fraternity’s Adamson chapter. His brother, also a frat member, was not worried considering that Matt-Matt is already a frat member back in their hometown.

However, since then, John Matthew Salilig’s brother, John Michael, never heard from him again. He was missing for 10 days before his lifeless body was recovered in a shallow grave in Cavite.

There were witnesses who reached out to the authorities and made their claims that John Matthew passed out after the welcoming rites. However, according to the witnesses, while there were suggestions to bring him to the hospital, there was a stronger command of keeping it among themselves to prevent the consequences.

Recently, a hearing regarding the case was held and seven (7) suspects in the case attended it via video conferencing. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the 7 suspects pleaded “not guilty” on the charges filed against them.

John Matthew Salilig’s brother, John Michael, said that he was initially surprised by the suspects’ “not guilty” plea but they have anticipated it. He stressed that the suspects all pleaded not guilty on both cases filed against them.

“Sabi ko, ‘Uy, lalaban.'” Yun yung unang main thing in mind ko lalaban sila, we’re prepared also for that fight. So we’re ready also,” John Michael said based on the report.

John Matthew Salilig’s brother added that he felt that Matt was there beside him and like telling him to fight. On April 18, there will be a pre-conference trial.
