“Tambay” Youths are Not Exempted in Miltary Training– Senator Bato

Senator Bato Dela Rosa Says Tambay Youths Will Also Undergo Military Training

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said that “tambay” or out-of-school youths will also undergo military training similar to Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC).

According to the senator, truant or non-schooling youths can likewise train under the Philippine Reservist Act. According to the act, all able-bodied Filipino citizens, even those who are not in school, would undertake military training.

“Yun naman mga out-of-school youth na hindi mako-cover nitong mandatory ROTC program, will be covered by [Republic Act] 7077, ‘yung Philippine Reservist Act wherein lahat ng able-bodied Filipino citizens ay mag-undergo ng military training kahit na nasa labas sila ng eskwelahan,” Dela Rosa said in an online interview with reporters.

Bato Tambay Military Training

In the Senate, Dela Rosa is the primary supporter of mandatory ROTC legislation. Meanwhile, Dela Rosa stated that P5 billion will be given for free uniforms for ROTC students based on the request of the Department of National Defense.

The senator expects that the plan will be supported by a majority of senators and passed this year. College and vocational training course students, whether Filipino or international, are covered by the necessary training. According to Dela Rosa, the ROTC training will be required for graduation.

The ROTC program will not only give a physical military education this time, but will also mold students’ personal discipline on human rights, environmental protection, disaster preparedness, and patriotism, according to Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa has already promised the public that students enrolled in the ROTC program will not be abused, as the measure also calls for the establishment of a special council in each local government unit to oversee the training.
