Sen Bato dela Rosa Recalls Working as Kargador, Bus Conductor

Sen Bato Dela Rosa Recalls Being a Kargador and Bus Conductor at Young Age

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa recalled working as “kargador” and bus conductor when he was young.

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa tweeted a photo during a visit to the Davao region, recalling his previous employment before becoming a cop. He depicted the City of Digos in his post, where he worked as a fish market laborer or kargador to sustain himself.

“Below me is the City of Digos where I grew up working as fish market laborer/ kargador.” Dela Rosa said in his Facebook post.

Dela Rosa revealed that, in addition to working as a laborer, he also worked as a bus conductor. The senator grew up in a low-income family, with his father working as a tricycle driver.

Despite his struggles, Dela Rosa emphasized his study and earned a Bachelor of Science in public administration from Mindanao State University. However, a greater chance presented itself when he was accepted to the Philippine Military Academy, where he graduated in 1986.

Dela Rosa got his biggest break when former President Rodrigo Duterte won the election and named him PNP head. Because of his popularity, he was elected a senator after retiring as a police officer.

Despite his inspiring narrative, Dela Rosa could not avoid criticism for his policies while leading the PNP. Meanwhile, Senator Francis Tolentino will serve as legal counsel for a fellow lawmaker in the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into Duterte’s violent drug war.

Duterte and Dela Rosa, the former’s first national police head, are accused of crimes against humanity in connection with alleged state-sponsored extrajudicial murders in the drug war.
