Rochelle Pangilinan recalled the time when her former dance group went through this issue
Dancer-actress Rochelle Pangilinan admitted that she regretted this particular decision for her former dance group Se*bomb Dancers.
Rochelle was part of the iconic all-girl dance group before she went solo. For many years, they were part of the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga. However, there was a point when they were no longer appearing in the show.
This started when their manager/choreographer Joy Cancio had a conflict with one of the executives of the Kapuso noontime show.
Based on the article in Bandera, Rochelle Pangilinan recalled this during a recent guesting on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast. The dancer-actress shared that they were at Daisy Siete’s taping when they learned that their manager was having a problem with a producer of Eat Bulaga.
Rochelle and other members of the group had their own afternoon soap opera back then. She shared that her initial decision as the leader of the group was to not intervene with the issue. However, Pat Perez, the director of Daisy Siete asked the girls if they will still perform in Eat Bulaga amid the conflict.
Rochelle said that she was just quiet as she was still weighing things at that time. She was thankful that the girls respected her as the leader and that they listened to her.
“Sinusunod nila ako noong mga panahon na ‘yon kung ano ang magiging desisyon namin bilang ate. Ako, firm ako roon sa desisyon ko na, ‘Hindi, a-attend tayo.’ So nag-meeting kami na alam ko somewhere in Timog,” she shared.
She explained that since the members of the group did not want to get involved, they just wanted to go home and skip the meeting.
“Kasi baka kapag um-attend naman tayo pagalitan tayo sa Eat Bulaga’. ‘O, baka kapag um-attend tayo papagalitan tayo ni Ate Joy, kapag hindi naman tayo um-attend magagalit ang Eat Bulaga, uwi na lang kami, mag-absent na lang kami today,’” Rochelle Pangilinan said.
They decided to report to Eat Bulaga and agreed on turning off their phones while they were at the noontime show studio. However, one of them was not able to turn off her phone and she received a call from Joy Cancio who was crying at that time.
Rochelle said that as Joy was their manager, they sympathized with her. When asked if she regretted that decision, the dancer-actress said that she did.
“Dapat naging professional pa rin kami. Siguro hindi sumama loob sa amin ng side ng Eat Bulaga, ‘yung ganu’n ang feeling. Kasi for sure sumama ang loob nila sa amin after that incident,” Rochelle Pangilinan said, adding that this is something that she wants to go back to and change if there is a chance.
