A family of five dies after being trapped inside their burning home, the fire reportedly started due to an electric bicycle that was left plugged.

On April 3, 2023, De Guzman-Villanueva Family from Pozorrubio, Pangasinan was unable to survive the tragic fire that consumed their house. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pozorrubio reported that all family members were found lifeless after the incident.

BFP reported that the fire was most likely started by an electric bicycle that was left plugged in while charging overnight. The victims have been identified as Mark, 34, Dixie, 36, Mc Kenxie, 6, Kairie, 2, and Keziah, 1.

The fire started in the garage, where the electric bicycle was being charged, according to BFP Pozorrubio SF04 Randy Fabro.

Despite the authorities’ efforts, the fire was declared under control at around 2:58 a.m., however, the victims could not be saved. The BFP assessed that the fire incident destroyed properties worth P9 million, and numerous nearby residences were also damaged.

The remains of all the victims were discovered hugging each other, reflecting the tragedy’s emotional strain on the family.

The incident serves as a warning for netizens to avoid leaving electric appliances charging overnight in order to avoid similar incidents. Electric bikes or e-bikes have become one of the fastest-growing transportation modes in the Philippines.

E-bikes are less expensive and cleaner compared to traditional vehicles.

As a result of the unfortunate incident, an Organization, Leknaan Ya Pozorrubio, Inc, has launched a donation campaign to help the surviving fire victims.
