Salilig Case Witness Reveals What Happened during Welcoming Rites that lead to Death

John Matthew Salilig Case Witness Speaks on “Events” at Frat’s Welcoming Rites

SALILIG CASE WITNESS – Roi, a student who claimed that he was with John Matthew at the welcoming rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, spoke about what happened before his death.

After 10 days since he was first reported missing, the lifeless body of John Matthew Salilig, a third year chemical engineering student of Adamson University, was found in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite.

The last time that the Salilig family heard from Matthew was when he informed his older brother, John Michael, that he will be going to a welcoming rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity. He is already a member of the frat’s chapter in Zamboanga City so his brother was not worried then.

Currently, 7 fratmen are in the custody of the police authorities. The police believes that around 10 more people have yet to surrender. Roi, a student who claimed that he was also present during the welcoming rites, is now a Salilig case witness.

Based on an article on GMA News, speaking to the team of KMJS, Roi, a 21-year-old Political Science student, said that he wanted to join Tau Gamma Phi because he was told that there were financial and academic support apart from the brotherhood. He claimed that they were driven to Biñan, Laguna where the hazing took place at an unfinished house owned by the father of one of the members.

Roi claimed that he was told not to look but he could hear John Matthew saying that his stomach hurts and he wanted to poop. He was told by the other fratmen not to be like Matthew whom he called “dramatic”.

The Salilig case witness further claimed that after the process, he and John Matthew ate instant noodles. They were brought to the house of another frat member to rest. Based on the report, Roi said that Matthew asked him if he could lean on him during the travel.

When they arrived at the house of one of the frat members, John Matthew seizured. Roi said that he was unconscious and vomiting and he suggested to bring him to the hospital but the fratmen disagreed with it.

According to Roi, he made an alibi that his father was able to traced him so they would allow him to go. The frat members allowed him to go home and, the next day, he heard that Matthew is gone.
