4 Human Trafficking Victims Intercepted by BI After Attempt to Fly to Singapore
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) intercepted four (4) human trafficking victims who allegedly attempted to board going to Singapore.
According to BI, their agents apprehended four more victims of human trafficking who attempted to slip into Singapore. Ann Camille Mina, Chief of the BI Travel Control and Enforcement Section, said the four victims attempted to board a Jetstar Airlines trip to Singapore on March 1.
According to Mina, BI received intelligence information about the departure of the victims from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) NAIA Task Force Against Trafficking about the victims who were said to be on their way to Cambodia to work in offshore gaming operations.
She stated that authorities were able to intercept their attempt and prevent them from being harmed abroad. The four were escorted by a female recruiter with a four-year-old child who claimed to work for manpower services, based on the report.
However, their assertions were contradictory because they eventually admitted to paying P10,000 each as a down payment to their recruiter. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco has issued another warning concerning unauthorized recruitment.
“These recruiters are crafty with their schemes, by using families with children as couriers,” according to Tansingco.
“We have seen how victims have been exploited and even physically abused abroad,” he added.
Prospective OFWs should not accept job offers obtained through social media. The BI Chief advised them to always seek work abroad through the Department of Migrant Workers. IACAT has been tasked with investigating both the victim and the recruiter.
