Ogie Diaz Laments Ayuda Given by the Government Due to Alleged Corruption in Barangays
Talent manager and showbiz vlogger Ogie Diaz appealed to the government to give jobs to Filipino people instead of “ayuda”.
Because of reported corruption in barangays, the talent manager recently proposed giving jobs instead of financial aid. This comes after the Department of Finance (DOF) said on March 7 that it planned to offer P1,000 cash aid to 9.3 million households in order to mitigate the effects of inflation in the country.
A P500 will be provided to homes during the next two months under the Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) program. However, the alleged government’s program was not well received by netizens, notably talent manager Ogie Diaz.
In his tweet, Ogie stated that it is preferable for the government to create jobs rather than provide cash assistance to the people. He even questioned whether the program would ever be free of corruption.
“Sana, trabaho ang i-produce. Eh sa ayuda na yan, anong assurance na sa brgy level eh walang kupitang magaganap? Sa brgy lang ba? #magreaknapoyungguilty,” he stressed in his tweet.
Ogie’s fans agreed with what the talent manager suggested. Meanwhile, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno stated the financial source has already been discovered and this will be provided “in a few days or weeks,”.
The government would also spend P26.6 billion on continuing to provide subsidies to the vulnerable sector. This involves increasing the “Kadiwa” program, offering fuel discounts, and providing fuel subsidies to the transportation sector.
The government would pay P13.3 billion in fertilizer discounts, followed by P9.3 billion in targeted cash transfer extension for low-income households. Following that was a P3 billion gasoline subsidy for the transportation sector and a P1 billion fuel discount for farmers and fishermen.
