Negros Oriental Governor Roel Ragay Degamo and five others were dead after armed individuals ambushed the politician’s residence.
Six people were killed, including Negros Oriental Governor Roel Ragay Degamo, and two police escorts were injured in a shooting by armed men who allegedly attacked the official’s house when he was meeting with 4ps beneficiaries in Barangay Nuebe, Pamplona, at 9:36 a.m. on Saturday (March 4, 2023).
Authorities said the armed individuals introduced themselves as police officers and opened fire on Governor Roel Ragay Degamo as he was speaking in front of civilians, injuring him in various parts of his body.
The governor was rushed to the hospital but eventually died, according to reports. His escorts, PFC Malunes and Sgt. Sayon, were also injured.
The suspects, who are believed to be the perpetrators of the crime, left in two SUVs. The identity of the five victims who died in the shooting are yet unknown.
The official is currently in the hospital, and his family is awaiting word on his death. Meanwhile, the injured police escorts are still receiving medical attention.
