A mechanical engineering student passed away after getting into a motorcycle accident in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.

Motorcycle accidents have become a major concern in the Philippines. In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the number of accidents involving motorcycles, and this trend seems to be continuing.

One of the primary reasons for this alarming trend is the lack of strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations. Many motorcycle riders in the Philippines ignore traffic rules, such as wearing helmets and other safety gear, and often ride recklessly.

The consequences of motorcycle accidents can be severe, including permanent disabilities and even death. The families of victims often face significant financial and emotional burdens, as the cost of medical treatment and other related expenses can be enormous.

James Carlo Tongco, a mechanical engineering student from Barangay Pusok in Lapu-Lapu City, died in a motorcycle accident while traveling alongside Carl Balonos, 20, who was injured in the incident.

At 2 a.m., the accident occurred. S. on Friday, March 3, 2023. Jayme Street in Mandaue City’s Barangay Paknaan. On an interior road in Barangay Paknaan, the motorcycle they were traveling collided with an incoming cargo van driven by Rance Asilo, a 21-year-old from Compostela town in northern Cebu.

Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles as a result of the incident. Tongco, the driver, was critically injured and pronounced dead at Mandaue District Hospital.

Police Corporal Darwin Cempron of the Mandaue City Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Section investigated the incident.
