Wanted Person Arrested after Pretending to be Police Major in Quezon City

Authorities arrested a wanted person who was allegedly pretending to be a police major in Quezon City.

A man wanted by the law in a case of qualified theft was apprehended by police and the military. According to the complaint, the suspect was also impersonating a Philippine National Police (PNP) officer in Quezon City.

Wanted Police Major

Joel James Macapagal Victoria, 44, was recognized as the impostor. Victoria was apprehended by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Philippine Army (PA) at Barangay Pag-asa, Quezon City.

According to CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat, Jr., Victoria even resisted and presented herself as a Police Major to the arresting troops. According to Caramat, he even presented his alleged PNP identification card.

The authorities have an arrest warrant out for Victoria in the case of qualified theft issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 96 Judge Primo Sio, Jr. A Cal 40 pistol was confiscated from the accused, and magazines with 10 bullets, based on the report.

Aside from that, a PNP ID card named after Police Major Joel Victoria, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ID card, various IDs, PNP GOA A (PNP authorized uniforms) with nameplate and insignia, and CIS-NCR QCPD t-shirts were seized from his possession.

“The accused was reported to be engaged in various illegal activities such as large-scale estafa, qualified theft, usurpation of authority, and other fraudulent activities operating in Quezon City and nearby cities,” Caramat said.

A case has been filed for violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Weapons and Ammunition Control Act), Revised Criminal Code Article 177 (Usurpation of Official Functions), Revised Penal Code Article 179 (Illegal Use of Uniform or Insignia), and Revised Penal Code Article 151. (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority or the Agents of such Person).
