Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ‘BBM’ Declares February 24, 2023 as ‘Special Non-Working Day’ in the Philippines

WALANG PASOK – President Ferdinand ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos declared February 24, 2023 (Friday) as a ‘special non-working day’ in the country.

Proclamation No. 167, issued by Ferdinand Marcos Jr, changed the date of the February 25, 2023 holiday to February 24, 2023 in order to allow Filipinos to benefit from a long weekend under the principle of “holiday economics.”

However, Marcos emphasized the need to preserve the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary. Marcos directed the Department of Labor and Employment to implement this proclamation in the private sector.

Later, Marcos also signed Proclamation No. 90, which aimed to promote tourism and boost government revenues by introducing long weekends. This proclamation declared January 2, 2023, a special non-working day, and designated April 10, 2023, and November 27, 2023, as regular holidays.

“There is a need to adjust these holidays pursuant to the principle of holiday economics wherein a longer weekend will help encourage domestic travel and increase tourism expenditures in the country,” Marcos said.

In a previous decree, Marcos declared February 25 as a special non-working day in honor of the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Notwithstanding the most recent proclamation, it is still the same, according to the Official Gazette website.

A statement regarding the activities of the Marcos family on Saturday has not yet been released by the Presidential Communications Office.

The EDSA People Power Revolution, also known as the Philippine Revolution of 1986, was a peaceful mass protest that took place in the Philippines from February 22-25, 1986. The revolution is a significant event in the history of the Philippines and is widely regarded as one of the most remarkable examples of peaceful democratic transition in the world.
