In her guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Michelle Dee shared what her game plan will be in MUPH 2023. She said, “Ako kasi I’m my worst critic, e. I appreciate constructive criticism through and through and I take it to heart pero last year kasi I really feel na I fell short sa relatability ko.”

According to her, she has not been able to share her story, hardships, and why she is strong like her mother, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez. “So there is a side of me that I really need people to see that I’m not as privileged as people think that I am, that I, too, had a difficult childhood also,” she continued.

Because of this, the King of Talk asked her about his difficult childhood. According to the Kapuso star, she grew up in the United States with her family.

“My mom and my dad had a rough marriage. So kaya kami lumipat sa States is to get away from that drama. That’s why I grew up in the States because my mom wanted to protect us from the noise,” she recounted emotionally.

“But, of course, since it’s marriage laging nag-aaway ‘yung mom ko [and] my stepdad, and I actually grew up with parent figures or people around me that would criticize every move that I make,” she added.

Michelle Dee also shared that she and her sister also experienced racism in the said country. She said, “People don’t know that me and my sister, we were the only two Asians in Utah. We were subject to a lot of racism, and then to top that off, I grew up with two autistic siblings. So parang medyo Addams family ‘yung atake.”

The 27-year-old celebrity also experienced bullying when they lived in a town in Utah because Asian culture was not common there. Despite what she went through before, Michelle is very grateful to her loved ones, especially her mother, Melanie.

“She’s the one who really taught me how to stay strong, to believe in the goodness and your worth, and to show that to people. Just like my mom, I really just want to inspire people to achieve their best self and to take that struggle and turn it into your strength,” said Michelle.
