DSWD Warns vs Text Scams About “Unclaimed” Relief Allowances

DSWD Warns Public Against Text Scams About “Unclaimed” Relief Allowances

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) warns the public against text scams about “unclaimed” relief allowances.

The DSWD warned the public to be cautious and not to respond to SMS messages about the agency’s assistance allocations. The DSWD released the statement on Wednesday, February 15, in response to a concerned citizen’s report that text messages about the unclaimed relief stipend for elderly persons and retired company owners were circulating.

It explained that the DSWD had not received any notification about the unclaimed allowance, and that no such relief allowance is being provided. The DSWD, on the other hand, stated that financial support is provided to individuals in crisis, including senior citizens, through its Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) at the central office and all field offices nationally.

CIU clients must pass an evaluation to be eligible for help. The DSWD urged the public to avoid contacting unknown individuals and sharing personal information by text message, email, or phone call.

Clients with questions about the department’s senior programs should call the DSWD VOIP number 8931-8101, extension 10125/10157, or send an email to [email protected], based on the report of PNA.

To ensure legitimate information, clients may also enquire directly with authorized workers at the city or municipality social welfare office in their respective local government entities. In addition, the DSWD recommended its clients to consult, ask questions, and submit complaints about various government services and programs solely on their official Facebook page.
