Juan Ponce Enrile Thankful for His 99th Birthday Amid Valentine’s Day
The so-called “immortal” politician Juan Ponce Enrile celebrates his 99th birthday this February 14 and greets girls for Valentine’s day.
Aside from Valentine’s Day, February 14 marks the 99th birthday of Juan Ponce Enrile, former Senate President, and the current Chief Presidential Legal Counsel. A day before his birthday, Enrile quickly acknowledged individuals who had previously congratulated him.
“I wish all the girls Happy Valentine’s. Thank you all who thought of me or who greeted me on my birthday,” he said in his Facebook post on Monday, February 13.
“99 years is a long time in terms of years, but a flickering moment in terms of eternity. Ce’est la vie! That is where we are all going. It is a race no one wishes to win!” he added.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, he thanked everyone who had congratulated him and also thanked God. He underlined that 99 years on this planet is a lengthy period of time.
“To everyone who greeted me or will greet me on my 99 years on this planet, thank you very, very much, and happy valentine’s day to all of you. I love you all. 99 years are, indeed, long in term of years, and I thank God for granting me those years. But in terms of eternity, those seemingly long years are but a fleeting moment,” said Enrile.
“Nonetheless, thank you Lord for the years you gifted me; for the protection you blessed me; and for all the blessings you have generously given to me and to my family; and the friends you, Lord, allowed me to have during my lifetime. Thank you dear God for this day!” he added.
Born on February 14, 1924 (99 years old now) in Gonzaga, Cagayan, Juan Valentin Furagganan Ponce Enrile Sr. is the daughter of a Spanish mestizo, Alfonso Ponce Enrile, and a Filipina, Petra Furagganan. His father was a powerful regional politician and a well-known lawyer. His father was already married when his mother, a stepdaughter of a fisherman, got pregnant.
He was Secretary of Justice and National Defense in the government of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He is currently the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel in the government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the son of Marcos, Sr.
