Robin Padilla has this statement about physical bullying that is happening in schools
Senator Robin Padilla said that “slight physical bullying” is okay during the review of Republic Act 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Law of 2013 at the Senate on Monday, February 3.
Basic education committee chairperson Senator Win Gatchalian led the review, based on the report from Rappler. He showed the result of the study made by Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics that the Philippines leads the highest instances of bullying in schools.
Gatchalian also showed a study that bullying affected the students’ performances in Math and Science. “Bullying is an education problem. And if we want to address learner performance and want to improve learner outcomes we want to make sure that the school environment is safe, conducive and the school environment projects confidence for our students,” he stressed.
He also said that bullying creates an environment of fear among the students. The undeniable results of this are a high number of dropouts, students are uncomfortable going to school, and they are having a hard time concentrating.
On the other hand, Sen. Robin Padilla has a different perspective when it comes to this matter. He said that experiencing “slight” physical bullying is just fine as this experience helped him in his life.
“Yung physical bullying, kayang i-handle yon. Ang hindi po kayang i-handle yung mental. Kasi, yon’ po ang mabigat,” the actor-politician said, adding that the focus must be on the mental state
“Para sa akin ngayon, ‘yun po ang nararanasan ng ating mga kabataan, ‘yung mental torture. ‘Yung physical torture, sorry po ah, pero para sa akin nakatulong pa iyon eh,” Robin Padilla said.
