PNP Warns Against New Modus Operandi of Scammers Using E-Wallet Cash-in
The Philippine National Police (PNP) warned the public against the new modus operandi of scammers using e-wallet cash-in.
The PNP warned the public about some common methods of operation, such as online scam incidents such as attempted cash-in via e-wallet. Following the viral video of a shopkeeper, the PNP Anti-Cyber-Crime Group (ACG) took immediate action.
According to the video, the shopkeeper is pressuring a female suspect to cash in P5,000. However, he has no money to show for it. The woman can also be seen talking on her phone to someone who tells her she needs to cash in the money.
The suspect did not consent to the victim in the said post, whereas the first one later admitted that she was also a victim and was allegedly only ordered. When the shopkeeper realized the woman she filmed was also a victim, she begged her not to spread the video.
According to the police investigation, the suspect allegedly fell victim to a scammer after winning P300,000 on a TV game show. According to a PNP-ACG official, they urged the general public and even wallet operators not to cash in money without first receiving it from someone.
The PNP, on the other hand, urged the public to immediately stamp the relevant mode of operation on the police in order to track down the perpetrators of the aforementioned irregularity. The PNP also advised the public to register their Sim cards to avoid being scammed and to track down the scammers as soon as possible.
