Ogie Diaz Shares Thoughts on Term Limit and Ban Lift on Dynasties
Talent manager and showbiz vlogger Ogie Diaz reacts to Clarita Carlos’s plan to scrap term limit and ban lift on political dynasties.
The showbiz vlogger took to Twitter to react to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Clarita Carlos’s call for term limits and a ban on political dynasties to be removed from a new Constitution. Carlos stated this during the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments’ third hearing on several constitutional amendment proposals.
Ogie, on the other hand, believes that a term limit is required. Only politicians who do not make politics a “hanapbuhay” and are not a “ganid” in the position, he claims, understand this. Allow others the opportunity to serve the people, he added.
“Dapat, me term limit. At ang mga nakakaintindi lang nito ay ang mga pulitikong hindi ginagawang hanapbuhay ang politics at di ganid sa posisyon bagkus binibigyan ng chance ang iba na makapagsilbi din sa bayan,” Ogie tweeted.
House Ways and Means Committee Chair and Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda informed his colleagues that a study has found that term limits have a negative impact on economic policies. For his part, Leyte 4th District Rep. Richard Gomez responded to charter change naysayers who insist on first implementing an anti-political dynasty law before discussing amending the basic law of the state.
“From the time I entered politics and started working in Congress ang dami ko na naririnig lagi about political dynasty. Hindi napapasa ang batas sa political dynasty simply because ang tao binibigyan natin ng karapatan, ng opportunity na pumili ng mga leaders na gusto nila,” Gomez said during the hearing.
“Hindi ho papasa ang anti dynasty bill because nga meron ho tayong election, if you don’t allow election anong mangyayari sa atin. You’re giving the people the choice, the chance piliin nila sino ang leader nila,” Gomez added.
